Summary
In conclusion, Germany surrendered because of the reasons below. After the United States entered the war, the German government realized that the huge numbers of fresh troops that would add to the allied side would mean the eventual conquest of Germany. Also their naval forces had been bottled up and their submarine campaign disappointing. They knew they weren't going to win and finally accepted that and surrendered. The armistice with Germany was signed November 11th, 1918. Nowadays there is a day (remembrance day) to remember all the soldiers that fought for Britain. Trouble in Germany The British blockade caused Germany not to be able to bring in food. Vladimir Ilyich Lenin 10th April 1870 – 21 January 1924) was a Russian communist revolutionary, politician and political theorist. He had overthrown the Russian king (Tsar). In 1918, German Kaiser (pronounced ki-zah) abdicated. This mean he gave up the throne. This lead Germany into chaos and so the government had to end the war. |
New weapons
Neither side made many advances and waited for one to break a war of attrition. Tanks were becoming more and more reliable and so were planes. They could attack each other in the air. Meanwhile, machine guns and poison gas could keep up the war of attrition. America entered the war Germany declared all U-Boat warfare which meant American ships were in danger of being sunk. The Zimmermann Telegram (or Zimmermann Note) was a 1917 diplomatic proposal from the German Empire for Mexico to join the Central Powers, in the event of the United States entering World War I on the side of the Entente Powers. Therefore, America joined the war because they were not happy. As you can see, Germany was desperate to win the war and did this to try and turn things around but it didn't. Because America joined, it gave Britain and France a massive boost because of the large amount of supplies and ships America had. |
